Excersise: "label" your collegaues

Hi George
Here is the exercise you want to try out. It is a roughly translation from Danish to English so please let me know if you have any questions.

About the time frame I usually give each person 5 minutes to tell his/hers story + 2 minutes to put on labels = 6 around a table will be approx 42 minutes + introduction.

Make sense?

"LABEL" YOUR COLLEAGUES

Purpose
To tell stories of own success – personal or in team
To listen to positive resources, competences, skills etc.

Organizing and materials
Place participants in groups of 3-6 persons e.g. around a table.
Make sure there is plenty of copier labels (writable stickers) to write on - not post-it notes but something that easily can stick on clothes.

Instruction
Everybody reads the following questions before start.
Make time to think and take notes about a personal story. Do that in silence - make 2 minutes of no talking.

Q: What are you most enthusiastic about in your work right know? Name a situation in your work that made you special proud. - It can be a situation you handled very well, either alone or together with colleagues.
• What happened?
• What did you do? What did others do?
• What made you special proud of this situation?

Procedure
While one person is telling his/her story the rest is listening.

Q: When you listen to the story: What impressive competences and amazing skills do the storyteller posses?
  • What does that tell you of what is important and valuable to the storyteller in his/her work?
Write keywords on labels.
Write as many labels as you want
When the storyteller is finished the group sticks all their labels on the person and continues with next person.

When everybody has told a story and got labels stuck on them, they get a A3 poster with the following instruction:
  1. Write your name at the top
  2. Place all your labels underneath (organize them if you want)
  3. Draw a circle around the 3-4 labels which you would like to be known for as a colleague (or person, team-member, leader, friend etc.)
At the end of the exercise all participants hang their posters on the wall.

(You can now officially open “The Exhibition Of Amazing And Impressive People”)
